Yoga Alternatives Meditation

About Meditation/Prayer

Attention to the breath can provide a mental focus that will help your mind become still. Through physical relaxation we can learn spiritual and psychological relaxation, releasing our need to be always in control. As we free our muscles from tension we can free our spirit from anxiety. Sport Yoga emphasizes the quiet body-awareness and relaxation that contribute to health. A means of growing in the centeredness that contributes to a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

According to Wikipedia “Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the conditioned, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. It is recognized as a component of almost all religions, and has been practiced for over 5,000 years. It is also practiced outside religious traditions. Different meditative disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual and/or psychophysical practices which may emphasize different goals -- from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or simply a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind.”

If you have a physical problem or illness, imagine a light of healing power surrounding you and the part of your body that needs healing. Breathe in the healing light to the parts of your body that need healing.
